What's this trip about?

Travel along China’s section of the Silk Road, from Beijing to Urumqi, and encounter the locals, landscapes, histories, architecture and cuisines of this ancient trade route. Admire the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, peruse the street stalls of Xian’s Muslim Quarter, visit the Great Wall’s end point, experience a desert sunrise in Dunhuang and wander among the ruins of Gaocheng. TRIP CHANGES FOR 2017: We have changed the PCXJ itinerary for 2017 to create a more comprehensive itinerary, concentrating primarily on the history of the Silk Road. These changes come as a result of traveller feedback and will allow us to truly explore the heart of the Silk Road.  Instead of ending the trip in Urumqi we will now start the trip in Urumqi, which has an International Airport, and end the trip in Kashgar.  We will no longer visit Beijing, Xi'an, Jiayuguan or Dunhuang and we have removed all overnight trains. Instead we will visit Korla, Kucha, Akasu and Tashkurgan instead, as we concentrate our itinerary more around the ancient Silk Road villages, travelling by private bus. We have created a new trip code and a new trip name for the 2017 itinerary.
