The coronavirus has left the status of international travel somewhat in the air. Most countries closed their borders, but is that still the case? If they are open, is it safe to visit?
Travel is definitely a bit confusing right now but there is some hope through the darkness. One country may allow everyone while the next only countries in the EU. Travelers coming from Australia and Canada may be able to visit, but not those coming from the US or UK. It depends not on the travelers citizenship but on the destination they would be arriving from. There is often a list of countries that they see as low risk when it comes to the coronavirus.
Below are the countries that are now open specifically to travelers coming from Australia right now.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Australia currently has their own travel ban against citizens leaving the country, so if you are traveling from Australia, you may need to apply for a special exception.
Safety info
State Department advisory: Level 3 (Reconsider Travel)
CDC Alert Level: 3(Travel ill advised due to Covid-19)
There is currently a Level 3 advisory against traveling to Montenegro due to Covid-19. No other safety risks are currently listed.
Travel restrictions: Travelers coming from Australia will need to present a negative coronavirus test upon arrival. It can't be older than 72 hours.
What’s open: Bars, restaurants, nightclubs, casinos and beaches among other businesses are all open to visitors.
Coronavirus situation: Montenegro has had 44,284 cases overall with 630 deaths and 34,569 recoveries. There were 329 new cases reported on December 21.

There is currently a Level 3 advisory against traveling to Bermuda due to Covid-19. No other safety risks are currently listed.
Travel restrictions: Travelers coming from Australia will need to present a negative status on a coronavirus test as well as undergo airport health screenings upon arrival. There is a short mandatory quarantine.
What’s open: Restaurants, museums, hotels and pools have all reopened to visitors.
Coronavirus situation: Bermuda has had 527 cases overall with 276 recoveries. There were 11 new cases reported on December 20.

There is currently a Level 3 advisory against traveling to Saint Lucia and Nevis due to Covid-19. No other safety risks are currently listed.
Travel restrictions: Travelers coming from Australia will need to present a negative status on a coronavirus test as well as undergo airport health screenings upon arrival. They will also need to show proof of a Covid certified hotel for their stay and fill out a travel registration form.
What’s open: Many hotels and resorts have reopened including Sandals Grande St Lucian, Ladera and Sugar Beach, Viceroy Resort.
Coronavirus situation: Saint Lucia has had 287 cases overall with 261 recoveries. There were five new cases reported on December 20.

Travelers are advised to reconsider travel to South Korea due to Covid-19. No other safety warnings are currently in place.
Travel restrictions: Travelers coming from Australia will need to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine as well as health screening at the airport. This includes temperature scans. they will also need to download the Self-Diagnosis mobile app.
What’s open: South Korea reopened nearly everything but saw a spike in cases and closed hotels, schools and museums again. It is unclear at this time what all has reopened to visitors.
Coronavirus situation: South Korea has had 51,460 cases overall with 722 deaths and 35,928 recoveries. There were 869 new cases reported on December 21.

Travelers should exercise increased caution if traveling to Antigua and Barbuda because of a natural disaster in 2017 that the country is still rebuilding from.
Travel restrictions: Travelers coming from Australia will need to present a negative status on a coronavirus test upon arrival and submit to airport health screenings as well as undergo a 14-day quarantine. They will also need to fill out a helath declaration form.
What’s open: Many hotels and resorts have reopened including Heritage Hotel, Hodges Bay Resort and Nonsuch Bay Resort.
Coronavirus situation: Antigua and Barbuda has had 153 cases with 143 recoveries. There was one new case reported on December 20.

Travelers are advised against visiting Rwanda due to Covid-19 and some isolated areas of crime and unrest. Increased caution is recommended on The Rwanda-Burundi and The Rwanda-Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)borders due to armed conflict.
The CDC alert level is only for Covid, so if you are concerned about avoiding common health risks in Africa such as Malaria or Ebola, Rwanda could be a great choice.
Travel restrictions: Travelers coming from Australia will need to present a negative coronavirus test upon arrival as well as submit to airport health screenings which includes an additional coronavirus test. They will then need to undergo a quarantine for 8-24 hours while they wait for the results.
What’s open: Hotels, restaurants and many national parks have reopened in Rwanda.
Coronavirus situation: Rwanda has had 7,402 cases overall with 65 deaths and 6,100 recoveries. There were 109 new cases reported on December 21.

Travel restrictions: Travelers coming from Australia will need to present a negative coronavirus test upon arrival and undergo airport health screenings which includes temperature scans. If a traveler is showing symptoms they will need to undergo a 14-day quarantine.
What’s open: Hotels, restaurants, parks, gardens, beaches and museums are all open to visitors.
Coronavirus situation: France has had 2,479,151 cases overall with 60,900 deaths and 184,464 recoveries. There were 5,797 new cases reported on December 21.

Travelers should exercise increased caution if traveling to Germany due to terrorism.
Travel restrictions: There are no mandatory coronavirus tests or quarantines for travelers coming from Australia. Travelers should note that without entry restrictions they may be at higher risk of contracting Covid-19 because there is no screening to tell if other visitors are entering the country with the virus.
What’s open: Stores, restaurants, museums and hotels have all reopened to visitors.
Coronavirus situation: Germany has had 1,536,526 cases overall with 27,381 deaths and 1,136,700 recoveries. There were 19,256 new cases reported on December 21.

Coronavirus situation: Italy has had 1,964,054 cases overall with 69,214 deaths and 1,281,258 recoveries. There were 10,869 new cases reported on December 21.

What’s open: Hotels have reopened to 50% capacity and restaurants are now open with limited capacity. Museums are open with ⅓ the normal capacity and beaches have also reopened with social distancing guidelines in place.
Coronavirus situation: Spain has had 1,830,110 cases overall with 49,260 deaths. There were 11,815 new cases reported on December 18.
