Aguas Calientes is a common stop on most Machu Picchu tours. The small town at the base of Machu Picchu is a tourist hub as those who have hiked, taken the train, or used other means mingle about, catch the 20 minute bus ride to the Sun Gate, and purchase souveineers. 

Many travelers find enjoyment in the hot springs near Aguas Calientes (the literal translation of which is "hot water"), especially after a long day exploring the ruins.
