Classic Eastern Europe Itineraries
One week in Eastern Europe isn’t nearly enough time to explore the entire region, but it is enough time to get a good taste of a few countries. Exploring the Baltic countries is a great introduction to Eastern European culture and history.
Day 1, Tallinn, Estonia: Spend your first day in the Baltics exploring Tallinn’s Town Hall Square and Old Town. Check out the handicrafts market in the Square during summer, or walk along the ancient city wall bordering the city.
Days 2 and 3, Riga, Latvia: Walk around Riga admiring the art-nouveau architecture. Stop by the Three Brother, a set of three houses on Mazā Pils Street dating back to the 15th century.
Days 4 and 5, Vilnius, Lithuania: Visit some of the 28 catholic churches in Riga. Climb up to the campanile of St. John’s church for the highest point in town, and a stunning view of the city below. Rent a boat to explore the green lakes of Verkiai Regional Park.
Days 6 and 7, Warsaw, Poland: Stroll through Old Town, stopping to shop artisanal goods from stalls in the town square before heading the the Royal Castle. If the season is right, take in a free concert on the banks of the Vistula River.
