Classic Nature Itineraries

One Week in Nature Itinerary: Canadian Rockies

Day 1, Calgary

     Day 1: Arrive in Calgary, and pick up your rental car. Drive to Banff National Park.

Day 2-3, Banff

     Day 2: Spend the day with a tour guide exploring the beautiful alpine area of Banff. Hike above the Bow Valley and take in the sights of wildlife, plants, flowers, and stunning mountains.

     Day 3: Ride the gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain, and take in the view of endless mountains. Drive along one of the most gorgeous drives in the world, the icefields parkway to The Crossing.

Day 4-5, Columbia Icefield

     Day 4 includes a visit to Jasper National Park. Pick a hike and take in more spectacular views. Keep driving to the Columbia icefields, tucked in the mountains. Spend the evening star gazing and enjoying the nature life.

      Day 5: Take a ride in an all-terrain ice explorer on Athabasca Glacier. Grab a water bottle to fill it with some of the fresh, crisp water. Walk along the Glacier Skywalk, featuring a glass viewing platform.

Day 6-7, Lake Louise

      Day 6: Take in the postcard views of Lake Louise and choose one of the full day hikes. Spend the evening browsing through the Chateau Lake Louise shops.

       Day 7: Spend the morning exploring Lake Louise area before making the drive back to Calgary to depart home.

Two Weeks in Nature Itinerary: South Africa

Day 1: Depart

     Day 1: Depart for your flight to Cape Town.

Day 2-5, Cape Town

     Day 2: Arrive in Cape Town and enjoy a welcome dinner and briefing.

     Day 3: Spend the morning taking a cable car to Table Mountain. Spend the afternoon strolling the waterfront and spending the remainder of the day at leisure.

     Day 4: Day 4 is a full day excursion to Cape Peninsula and the Cape of Good Hope. Visit penguin colony, where you’ll penguins hanging out on the beach. End the day with a visit to Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden.

     Day 5: The last day in Cape Town is for leisure exploring. Consider checking out Camps Bay for fun shopping, great beaches and awesome views. Take a day trip to Stellenbosch or Franschhoek (about an hour outside) and visit the winelands. Another great day trip is Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela spent nearly twenty years in captivity.

Day 6-7, Hluhluwe

     Day 6 is a travel day from Cape Town to the North Coast of South Africa. Visit the village of Westbrooke and visit the Indian Ocean. Continue the drive to the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve.

     Day 7: Spend the morning on a game drive searching for the big five. The evening is spent visiting the Zulu tribe, known for it’s warrior culture.

Day 8, Swaziland

     Day 8 is spent visiting the tiny Kingdom of Swaziland, surrounded entirely by the country of South Africa. Shop for souvenirs and spend the evening at leisure.

Day 9-10, Kruger Park

     Day 9 will be spent driving through the eastern countryside to Kruger National Park, South Africa’s game sanctuary. Spend the afternoon going for a game drive.

     Day 10 consists of morning and evening game drives. Bring your camera and hope to spot all of the big five, as well as zebras, giraffes, and hippos.

Day 11-13, Johannesburg

     Day 11: Leave Kruger and head towards Johnnesburg, driving through the beautiful countryside. Spend the evening in the neighborhood of Sandton. Explore the shops and dining options at Sandton Square.

     Day 12: Take a day trip to Soweto, and visit Nelson’s Mandela’s former house. The afternoon is spent visiting the apartheid museum, and learn about the rise and fall of apartheid.

     Day 13: Spend the day at leisure before departing for your flight home from Johannesburg.

Alternative Nature Itinerary: A little bit of everything – New Zealand

Day 1-2, Auckland

      Day 1: Your New Zealand adventure begins in Auckland, where you will arrive, settle in from your travels, and have a welcome meetings.

      Day 2: An early morning departure will take you to Coromandel Peninsula, where travelers can walk to the cove or take a kayak. Alternatively, spend the day exploring the city of Auckland.

Day 3,  Rotoura

      Day 3: Explore Rotoura, which sits over an active volcano and is filled with bubbling mud pits and multi-colored pools. Mingle with the people of the Maori village, and enjoy dinner and a bonfire. Spend the night in the village.

Day 4-5, Wellington

      Day 4: Drive from Maori village to Wellington, the capital of New Zealand.

      Day 5: Spend the morning with an orientation walk, and a free day to explore the city.

Day 6, Kaikoura

      Day 6: Fly to the South Island, and drive to the seaside town of Kaikoura, known for its marine life. Spend time swimming with dolphins or going on a whale watching tour.

Dau 7, Hanmer Springs

      Day 7: Stop at a winery en route to Hammer Springs. Once you reach Hammer Springs, take a soak in the hot springs.

Day 8-9, Franz Josef

      Day 8: The eighth day will be a travel day, starting at Hanmer Springs, traveling through the alps of the South Island. Stay in a rainforest near a glacier.

      Day 9: This is a free day to explore the area of Franz Josef. Optional activities include glacier walking, horse trekking, or scenic helicopter flights.

Day 10-12, Queenstown

      Day 10: Arrive in the adventure capital of the world. Spend the evening enjoying the night life that Queenstown offers.

      Day 11: Similar to Franz Josef, there are lots of thrill seeking opportunities in Queenstown. Go bungee jumping, paragliding, or take a gondola for unparalleled views of the city.

      Day 12: Take a day trip to doubtful sound and Fiordland National Park.

Day 13, Twizel

      Day 13: Head north to the Aoraki/Mt. Cook National Park, and soak in the mountain air.

Day 14, Christchurch

      Day 14: The last day will be spent in Christchurch. Check out the gardens and enjoy a walking tour. Depart from Christchurch.
