Slovakia River Cruise

Slovakia’s capital city Bratislava sits on one of Europe’s longest rivers, the Danube. Many Danube River cruises include a day or night in Slovakia for your to explore this country’s beauty.

Day 1, Budapest, Hungary: Arrive in Budapest. 

Day 2, Budapest: Explore both sides Budapest as the Danube separates the city into two parts. You can stroll the castle quarter at the top of the hill on the Buda side or enjoy a walking tour of the Jewish Quarter and squares on the Pest side. 

Day 3, Danube and Bratislava, Slovakia: Set out from Budapest up the river towards Bratislava where you can visit the city’s famous palaces and the varying architecture buildings that make up the city. 

Day 4, Vienna, Austria: Head out into the City of Waltzes with a few different tour options of visiting the city’s highlights, local spots, or palaces. Make sure to check out the many musician and art museums throughout Vienna.  

Day 5, Durnstein, Austria: Take some time in this smaller city where you can stroll through the streets and adorable shops or visit Austria’s oldest winery before sailing down the river while catching glimpses of the churches and castles along the riverbed. 

Day 6, Salzburg or Linz: Dock in Linz and either have the option to tour the artsy city of Linz or Mozart’s birthplace of Salzburg.  

Day 7, Passau: Stop over in Passau at the convergence of three of Europe’s rivers. You can either explore the city or rent a bike and pedal along the Ilz or Inn Rivers. 

Day 8, Passau: Disembark.

Slovakia & Beyond

Slovakia is often included in tours of other Central European countries. If you wish to combine your tour of Slovakia with the surrounding countries, there are plenty of options and itineraries to choose from. 

Day 1, Vienna, Austria: Arrive in the musical city of Vienna. 

Day 2, Vienna: Start off your trip with a guided walking tour of Vienna’s historic city center before enjoying a free afternoon to further explore Vienna and the surrounding countryside. 

Day 3, Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic: Head out of Vienna by bus to the Bohemian city of Cesky Krumlov where you can enjoy a bike ride tour of the rolling hills and meadows around this medieval city. 

Day 4, Cesky Krumlov: Take your free day to further explore this romantic area. Either visit a local art museum or canoe down the river that runs next to the city. 

Day 5, Prague, Czech Republic: Travel by bus to one of Central Europe’s most romantic cities. Stay right in the city center and head out for a walking tour of the city. 

Day 6, Prague: Your first day in Prague is all up to you. Visit the Old Jewish Cemetery, the Museum of Communism, or the city’s famous Clock Tower. Head out for a night on the town and visit some of Prague’s hidden jazz bars. 

Day 7, Prague: Spend the morning in the Czech’s largest castle, Prague Castle, before enjoying a leisure bike tour of the city. 

Day 8, Gory Sowie, Poland: Take a train into Poland to discover the Owl Mountains and Osowka, an underground complex that was used during WWII. 

Day 9, Krakow: Head over to Poland’s second largest and intellectual city. Stroll through the medieval Central Square and relax in the Jewish Quarter eating pierogi. 

Day 10, Krakow: Further explore this colorful and historic place by visiting Wawel Royal Castle or head out on a day trip to the nearby Salt Mines that were in operation for 700 years before returning to the city for dinner in one of Krakow’s many pubs. 

Day 11, Tatra Mountains, Slovakia: Head farther into the mountains that hug the Polish-Slovakian border and stay in a mountain resort. 

Day 12, Tatra Mountains: Get ready for an active day as you get out into the beautiful landscape by hiking through these ancient mountains for a few hours. 

Day 13, Budapest, Hungary: It’s a travel day to Budapest. Upon arrival, stretch your legs and stroll around the city before grabbing a gelato and enjoying it in one of the squares. 

Day 14, Budapest: Take your last full day to really explore this beautiful river city. Take a boat ride down the Danube, visit the Royal Complex with views of the famous Parliament Building, or spend an afternoon at one of the local thermal baths. 

Day 15, Budapest: End your tour after breakfast.

Slovakia Outdoor Itinerary

Slovakia is known for having some of the most beautiful valleys, mountains, and rivers in Central Europe. If you’re looking for an active itinerary of this region, maybe check out one of the walking or biking tours that are offered. 

Day 1, Prague, Czech Republic: Land in Prague and take the rest of the day to explore the Prague Castle or Wenceslas Square.

Day 3, Trebon: Ride through the quiet meadows and lakes of Trebon Basin as you make your way to the famous spa village. 

Day 4, Telc: Head out of Trebon onto the Greenways Trail that takes you through the Czech Republic and Austria to the Renaissance town of Telc. 

Day 5, Mikulov: Cycle through the rich area of Moravia with its stunning architecture and sprawling vineyards. 

Day 6, Lednice: Ride into Austria to see the “Moravian Versailles” in Lednice before taking a connection to Vienna. 

Day 7, Vienna: Enjoy a free day in Vienna and rest your legs by relaxing in the city’s squares, touring the museums, or listening to the many street musicians. 

Day 8, Danube Cycle Path: Join the path that follows the Danube River as you make your way into Slovakia through a national park. 

Day 9, Bratislava: Take the morning to further explore the multi-era city before heading back out onto the bike. 

Day 10, Vac: Enjoy your last cycling day next to the Danube before taking a transfer back to Budapest to further explore the city. 

Day 11, Departure: Head home after your cycling tour.
