Editor’s Take
Most trip reviews tend to focus on some or all of these 5 key areas, not all of which may be relevant to you: the tour guide, travel company, service level, country or countries traveled in, and the trip itinerary. Remember, just because you see a 1 star review doesn’t necessarily mean that person disliked the country.
“A superb holiday in beautiful countryside,” “wonderful wildlife adventure,” “stunning views, good hikes and great hospitality,” are just a few of the many amazing things travelers had to say about their guided tours of Bulgaria.
Additional positive reviews of Bulgarian tours touched on the beautiful scenery, ideal itineraries, helpful guides, and unique cultural experiences. Many reviewers commented on how they had never heard of the Rodopi Mountains or other parts of Bulgaria before their travels and after visiting, couldn’t wait to go back!
A popular adventure tour of Bulgaria is hiking through the many mountain ranges of the country. Many of these mountains are very steep and some hikers commented they were not prepared for the amount of hiking and difficulty of the trip. Planning ahead and training before a hiking or skiing tour is extremely important if you are a first timer as Bulgaria is very rugged.
The time of year you travel to Bulgaria is also something travelers should pay attention to when booking their tour. Some reviewers commented on the closing of attractions when their tours went through certain areas of Bulgaria. Many locations in Bulgaria, like Varna, are seasonal destinations and many of their shops and restaurants may be closed in the off-season. On the other hand, there are cities, such as Sofia and Bansko, you can visit any time of the year.
A major treat for reviewers were the wildlife tours of Bulgaria as the country is home to a high number of bears. Visitors commented on the amazing landscape and hiking trails they encountered while on their tour and the expert knowledge of the guides. However, if you are planning a wildlife tour it is important to remember that these animals are wild and guides can not guarantee you will see bears every day.
