Editoral Review of Adventures Abroad
Since 1987, Adventures Abroad has offered tours around the world. They believe travel will not only help you grow and change, but provide opportunities, new perspectives, and broaden horizons.
What Makes Adventures Abroad Stand Out?
- Small group sizes (21 people max)
- 400+ itineraries around the world
- Attention to detail in every itinerary
You can expect consistent quality, flexibility, experience, small groups, and great value when going on a tour with Adventures Abroad. For these reasons, they have gained a following of loyal travelers over the years.
Who Will Enjoy Traveling With Adventures Abroad?
- Adults
- Ages 50+
- Moderately active travelers
- Ages 15+ (for Family Group Tours)
Although their tours welcome adults of all ages, Adventures Abroad attract many ‘mature travelers’ in their 50’s. There is generally a lot of moving and walking through cities and towns, which is great for those that like to see more in a short period of time. Adventures Abroad also caters to seniors and/or families with young children with their Custom Trips option.
Tours sit at a mid-range price level and are all conducted in English. The majority of their travelers come from Canada and the USA, but they are welcoming to people from all around the world.

They travel all around the world, with a focus on bringing you to places off the beaten path. But if you’re worried about missing the main sites, don’t worry. Adventures Abroad designs their itineraries to be well balanced. You’ll usually have the opportunity to see many main attractions as well.
On an Adventures Abroad tour to Italy, a visit to the Accademia museum will be followed by the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, and end with a walk through the tombs of Michelangelo and Galileo Galilei.
Or visit a mosque, stroll through a park dedicated to Mahatma Ghandi, and take photos of important Muslim monuments on an Adventures Abroad India tour.
Adventures Abroad Travel Style
As a small group tour company, Adventures Abroad takes advantage of travel experiences not available to larger groups.
One of the best benefits of traveling in smaller groups is that they can secure bookings in smaller local restaurants. This means more authentic cuisine experiences, and less buffets. Breakfast and dinners are included, with lunch being free for you to explore.
Accommodations are typically hotels in the 3-4 star range. They focus on providing a comfortable sleeping place, and less about the fancy beach resorts. Elevators and en suite toilets will not be available in some hotels. You’ll ride private air-conditioned motor coaches for the most part, with the occasional public trains and local transport.
They offer 3 different travel styles…
Cultural Journeys
- “Soft adventure trips” focused on culture, history, and natural attributes of the destination
- Not physically demanding, but plenty of walking on uneven surfaces in cities, towns, and archaeological sites
- Fast-paced
- 3-4 star hotels
Active Adventures
- More physically demanding than Cultural Journeys
- hiking/walking excursions
- Active hiking days balanced with leisurely cultural activity days
- 3-4 star hotels
Family Friendly Tours
- Custom-built tours
- Great for young children and seniors
- Private group guided tours
Adventures Abroad Trips are rated 1 to 3 for activity levels.
Level 1: There is very little physical activity involved aside from short walks to restaurants or sights of interest.
Level 2: The itineraries are jam-packed and require a lot of moving throughout the day. It would be a good idea to pack some comfortable walking shoes.
Level 3: Tours with hikes and walks on uneven and steep terrain will fall into this category.
Customized itineraries for friends, families, couples, work or school outings are another specialty. You can choose from one of their existing itineraries or work with them to design your own.
Their Module System is a great option for those that plan to go to multiple countries. If you only want to have tours in certain destinations, and a wider range of duration and itinerary options, they’ll help you out with that!
Why Choose a Tour With Adventures Abroad?
Adventures Abroad tour guides’ extensive knowledge and helpfulness will provide you with great insight into the history and culture. Additionally, their small group sizes will allow for you to build better friendships, discover more authentic food, and move quicker.
On the other hand, moving at a fast pace often means you get less time to interact with locals, or wander around on your own. Visiting famous statues, monuments, and walking tours are common themes, so if you don’t enjoy these types of activities, Adventures Abroad may not be suitable for you.

Small Group: Our groups comprise no more than 21 participants plus an Adventures Abroad Tour Leader. With Adventures Abroad you can do more and see more at an easier pace, enjoy the peace and quiet of that special place you've always dreamed of, and actually hear the local guide! As food always plays an important role in the local cultural experience, we avoid large hotel buffets in favour of smaller, local restaurants.
