Editoral Review of Rail Discoveries
Based in York, England, Rail Discoveries – formerly called Treyn -- puts together tours that feature a wide range of rail travel.
What Makes Them Stand Out
Their variety of rail tours include steam train tours, river cruising tours (that combine trains with river cruises), seasonal trips such as European Christmas market tours, classic train journeys such as Switzerland’s Glacier Express and the Jungfraujoch, vintage train tours, and special interest trips such as battlefield tours.
Who Travels With Them?
Train buffs or anyone who wants to sample the joys of great train travel with a group.
Where Do They Operate?
Primarily in the UK and Ireland, as well as 17 countries in mainland Europe, but also in India, China, Vietnam, Morocco, the U.S., and Canada.
How Does it Work?
Rail Discoveries tours are accompanied by a tour manager who oversees logistics such as lodging and scheduling, making sure everything runs smoothly, and offers information about local sights and cultures. Most itineraries leave from London. If traveling to mainland Europe, you’ll take the high-speed Eurostar to Paris and then other high-speed trains to your base city. Excursions, lodging and many meals are included on all-inclusive tours, but time is allotted for independent exploration and dining. Flights are included if going beyond Europe. Tours typically average 30-35 people per group.
Why Travel With Them?
Rail Discoveries takes the worry out of train travel, letting you fully relax in comfort as you rumble past gorgeous scenery and experience some of the world’s greatest railway journeys, with a variety of intriguing options. Tours are good for solo travelers who enjoy having company along the way.
