The Vacation Project

Started as a passion project by already dedicated and experienced travelers, the Vacation Project is about designed curated trips with a strong local community focus.

What Makes Them Stand Out?

The Vacation Project partners with local NGO’s to make sure that your tourism dollars go as far as possible toward helping local communities. Extensive experience in local travel on the part of the founders means that they have a very good sense and passion for determining the legitimacy of each organization they work with. They are all about bringing you well beyond tourist sites, and introducing the everyday life aspect into your travel experience.

Who Travels With Them?

This is a tour for travelers who specifically like traveling with community involvement in mind. Trips are dedicated to volunteering, but also maintain a balance of social and fun events. Group size is limited to between 10-16 travelers. Customized trips for private groups are also an option. Because of the strong responsible travel mission of Vacation Project, you can be sure to be surrounded by like minded travelers. They do skew younger (in the 18-35 range) on their trips. Most activities are outdoors, and accommodations are basic but comfortable.  

Where Do They Operate?

Currently they operate trips in Costa Rica, Morocco, and Nicaragua. Trips visit rural locations and small villages - far less emphasis is placed on tourist sites.
