- Cusco is used most commonly to refer to the city of Cusco, but it is also the name of an entire region in Peru, which encompasses the Sacred Valley, and of course Machu Picchu
- It is from Cusco that almost all tours to Machu Picchu depart. Whether by train or taking a shuttle to the start of your trek.
- It is highly advised if you are planning on visiting Machu Picchu, to plan a few days in Cusco beforehand, both for acclimating to the altitude and for getting an introduction to the history of the Incan Empire.
- Spanish is widely spoken in Peru. Though you will notice certain idiosyncrasies that make it differ from European Spanish, this is not enough to make communication impossible.
- The weather in Cusco is at its coldest during June, July, and August, and the rainy season lasts from November to March. April and September are the sweet spots for perfect weather in Cusco!
