The best time to visit French Polynesia is during the ‘dry season’ (April - October). During this time you can expect plenty of sunshine, cooler temperatures, less humidity and no chance of cyclones.
During July, the annual Heiva festival takes place in Tahiti. It is a festival celebrating traditional Polynesian customs of dance and physical skills, where teams from various islands compete for bragging rights.
Aside from Moorea which is reached via a ferry from Tahiti, the only practical way to get from one island to another is by flying. If you’re planning to visit multiple islands, inquire about purchasing an ‘air pass’ from Air Tahiti. Cruise ships are also another great way to explore multiple islands, with some even reaching the remote Marquesas Islands.
Even though every island is different, don’t try and pack as many islands into one visit. Take it slow and leave room in the schedule to embrace ‘island time’.
