What travelers are saying

"Our most recent trip with Hidden Places, the La Rioja Bicycle tour, has only confirmed our high regard for the quality and attention to detail that make their trips beyond parallel. Starting in Pamplona, we enjoyed seven days of riding through gorgeous, verdant green countryside, through lovely historic hilltop villages, through wildflowers, vineyards, fields of wheat and oats, and alongside many pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. We toured an underground winery in Laguardia, a monastery dating to the 11th century, the Frank Gehry designed winery in Elciego and the most amazing wine museum, Vizcano, with a world class collection of everything wine! Our lodgings, always beautiful and a welcome sight after a day’s ride, varied from a repurposed flour mill to historic convents. And the food . . . beyond description, always fresh, always beautifully presented, and always nearly too much ☺ The trip was more than we ever could have imagined, the hallmark of Hidden Places Travel. It would be remiss not to mention the best part of it all, our guides Lukas and Laura who took great care of us, made us laugh, taught me more wildflowers and kept us all going and enjoying. Again, Dag and Maria always get the best! Thank you!"

What travelers are saying

"We've done tours of Israel, Turkey, Guatemala/Honduras and the Yucatan with Archaeological Tours. Obviously we've had good experiences with each tour and each 'professor'. The hotels have been quite good and the food likewise. The educational experience and the other tour members have all been first rate. We have done a lot of travel in budget, upscale, adventure/nature genres as well as the educational type of tour. We have plans for more tours with archaeological tours along with other types in the future"

What travelers are saying

"I’ve had two great adventures with this company. Both journeys offered a combo of moderate off the beaten path and times for luxury. Guides are highly knowledgeable and they offered us opportunity to go deep into history. I really appreciated some rugged moments. The South Africa trip was life changing for many reasons. They are great communicators and want to make sure you get answers and interests met. Both trips had very good hotels and food. Please try them if you travel to learn and participate in new cultures."

What travelers are saying

"Mario Marin is a gem!!! Tom and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip with him and driver Pablo. His unbridled enthusiasm and knowledge about all things Costa Rica kept us excited day after day! He is a wonderful person with a happy, friendly disposition, and impressively articulate and well informed. As a guide he was able to spot and identify birds that we could just barely see. As for the itinerary, it was the perfect amount of time in each location. We saw all the different monkeys and even the elusive Quetzal! Thank you so much! This trip was a once in a lifetime opportunity for us. Josh and Wild Planet Adventures will always be highly recommended by us!"

Southeast Asia Tour Selection Trips

  • Every major country in Southeast Asia is worthy of a visit on its own, so consider limiting your tours to one or two countries.
  • A good way to combine two countries is via a Mekong River cruise that sails through both Vietnam and Cambodia.
  • Small ship sea-going vessels are ideal for island-hopping through Indonesia and the Philippines
  • Study up on local customs and taboos before heading off on your Southeast Asia tour; for instance, never say anything negative about the king of Thailand or touch a Buddhist monk.
  • Indonesia, Malaysia, and parts of the Philippines are majority Muslim, so you may want to avoid traveling there during the month of Ramadan, when Muslims don’t eat between sunrise and sunset.
  • While the weather is generally tropical in Southeast Asia, check the rainy versus dry seasons before booking a tour.
  • April is the hottest month in Bangkok, when it can get stifling.
  • Wildlife safaris -- in search of komodo dragons, orangutans, tropical birds, and more – are an often overlooked tour possibility throughout much of the region.
  • While Bangkok and other Southeast Asian cities are essential stops, be sure to choose tours that also visit the countryside, where the modern hasn’t yet overwhelmed the traditional.
