Families and children will experience the cultures and people of Belize during a canoeing adventure downstream on the Macal River to meet a local Belize family in Cristo Rey village. After a walk-about the the children will share a meal and perhaps even help prepare corn tortillas for a traditional meal.

As part of the archaeological component of the program, the children will travel back in time on horse back to on-site ancient Maya temples and become junior archaeologists learning about the mystery of a lost civilization. Chaa Creek Jungle Lodge
The lodge at Chaa Creek Adventure Centre, Rainforest Reserve and Spa has pioneered natural history travel to Belize since 1981. A private 365-acre nature reserve set along the banks of the Macal River in the foothills of the Maya Mountains, the lodge provides a unique rainforest experience while maintaining an unspoiled ambiance. Chaa Creek has received substantial recognition including the 1998 Green Hotel of the Year awarded by American Express and the Caribbean Hotel Association as well as the 2002 World's Best award by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine.
Activities at Chaa Creek
Guests to Chaa Creek enjoy entry into the 365-acre rainforest reserve, guided tours of the Natural History Center and Butterfly Farm, access to Chaa Creek's Ruta Maya Trail system, canoeing upstream in the Macal River, early-morning bird walks with naturalist guides, guided interpretive tours of the Maya Medicinal Plant Trail and swimming in an eco-friendly swimming pool. Designed with both children and adults in mind, the pool's bi-level configuration allows for swimming and paddling pools, as well as generous lounging space for dining, sunbathing and relaxation. Wildlife abounds, and some 250 species of birds have been sighted within the reserve.
In order to confirm this trip, a deposit of $500 is required at the time of booking. A Reservation Form, which includes a release of liability, must be completed and signed by all travelers. The balance of the trip price is due 90 days before the departure date. Guests who must cancel their trip for any reason must do so in writing. Cancellations are subject to the following fees, based on number of days prior to departure:
Up to 91 days - 50% of deposit
90 to 31 days - 50% of total trip cost
30 to 0 days - 100% of total trip cost
