Kilimanjaro Climbs Machame Climb

Upon arrival today, you are met and transferred to your hotel for an overnight. You'll have time to sort your equipment for an early start the next morning.

This morning, drive to the Kilimanjaro park gate at Machame village. The day is spent walking to Machame Hut through the mountain's lush lower rainforest. Depending on the weather conditions, this can be a moderate to demanding day; count on a minimum of 4 - 5 hours. The camp is pitched around 10,000 ft.

This morning, cross valleys, streams and ridges on your way to into the alpine moorland of the Shira Plateau. The views and foliage can be breathtaking - and you just may see some of the local wildlife as well. Camp is pitched near the Shira Hut, around 12,600 ft.

The route now turns into semi desert, rocky landscape surrounding Lava Tower at an altitude of around 15,200 ft. This is definitely the toughest day so far. After lunch, descend to the Barranco camping area. The descent offers some great photo opportunities of the Western Breach and Breach Wall. This evening, camp is sited around 15,000 ft.

After spending the night at the Great Barranco Wall, make your way up this awesome looking obstacle. Then head down through the Karanga valley. Camp is pitched at Barafu campsite. Barafu is the Swahili word for ice. Prepare your equipment and get some precious rest in preparation for the final ascent later tonight.
