The day is yours to relax on board. In summer, these waters are rich in plankton. Look for minke, humpback and sperm whales in deep sea feeding grounds. Fulmars, gannets and cormorants drift on the breeze above our ship.

Our ship nudges into port today in Hammerfest. A clutch of handsome wooden houses greet us at the harbour. The northernmost town in Norway, and perhaps even the world, is at our doorstep until after lunch. Roam the town on your own schedule, watching for reindeer who have right of way here. To Norway’s fourth-largest island today. Hinnoya is defined by lush forests and snow-capped peaks. Glassy fjord waters ripple like silk. Wild strawberry fields add a sweetness to the air.We land at the town of Harstad during the annual Arts Festival of Northern Norway. Enjoy the musical and cultural festivities at your own pace. The Viking port of Hellesylt leads us to the nation’s most famous fjords. At Geirangerfjord, sheer granite cliffs shimmer with seven plunging waterfalls, known as the ‘Seven Sisters’. A full-day tour by road immerses us in breathtaking scenery. Farms rest on steep cliff sides along the twisting mountain road to the village of Geiranger.

We bid farewell to Norway and sail off toward Danish waters. A day at sea gives us a chance to enjoy the onboard facilities. You may attend a lecture or take some time out at the spa.

Back to where it all began. A second inspection of Copenhagen takes us to Hillerod. Here, we seek out the Renaissance castle and Baroque gardens of Frederiksborg Castle on a private visit. An afternoon is well spent at the castle’s Museum of Natural History. We leave as learned experts in Danish history.

A relaxing day at sea merges into a pleasant evening, wining and dining under the glow of the midnight sun.

Pavlovsk Palace was constructed in 1781 in honour of Catherine the Great’s son. We explore the palace and park. Catherine Palace is our next stop. A stroll around the manicured gardens precedes lunch and a Russian folklore performance. The bright lights of St Petersburg twinkle out of sight as we set sail this evening.

: Day 25: Friday 6 July

Castle turrets and regal domes adorn the skyline. Tallinn appears straight out of a fairytale. We discover the pretty Estonian capital on our own terms. Or, today’s Your World experiences shed light on a city that retains an air of secrecy.

: Day 26: Saturday 7 July

Disembark ShipDisembark Silver Spirit in Stockholm. Our home on land for the next two nights is the Radisson Blu Strand Hotel. Delving deeply, enjoy panoramas of the city on a river cruise to Fjallgatan, before exploring the Royal Palace and the Old City. Dinner takes place at the Operakallaren, home of the Royal Swedish Opera. Water views enhance our stunning meal.
