What's this trip about?

Explore a wilderness of white-sand beaches and clear turquoise waters on the northwest coast of Scotland. You’ll venture far from the mainland to discover what it’s like to live on the remote Hebridean islands of Skye, Harris and Lewis. Few visitors make it as far as these isolated isles, so you’ll be able to kayak through secluded inlets and explore nature spots – such as the Fairy Pools on Skye – with hardly another soul in sight. To warm the cockles, there’ll be Scottish whisky tastings, plus a visit to an ancient stone circle, adding another magical layer to this tranquil, Tolkien-esque landscape that feels a million miles from the rest of the UK.

Accommodation

Glenmoriston Townhouse Hotel, Inverness

In the heart of Inverness, this townhouse hotel offers modern, tartan-decked rooms overlooking the River Ness. The Contrast Brasserie serves excellent locally sourced food and at weekends the place comes alive with live music in the Piano and Whisky Bar.

The Rosedale Hotel, Portree

A cluster of converted fishermen’s cottages comprise the Rosedale, overlooking Portree Harbour. You’ll appreciate its warm, contemporary décor, and a full Scottish breakfast will set you up for a day in the hills.

Royal Hotel, Stornoway

It’s just a short stroll from Lewis Castle to this traditional hotel in pretty Stornoway marina. Drop off your bags in your cosy country-style room before enjoying fresh seafood in the Boatshed restaurant, or tacos in the hip HS-1 Cafe Bar.
