Day 3: Livorno, Italy

Livorno is a gritty city with a long and interesting history. In the early Middle Ages it alternately belonged to Pisa and Genoa. In 1421 Florence, seeking access to the sea, bought it. Cosimo I (1519–74) started construction of the harbor in 1571, putting Livorno on ...

Day 6: Amalfi, Italy

At first glance, it's hard to imagine that this resort destination, set in a verdant valley of the Lattari Mountains, with its cream-color and pastel-hue buildings tightly packing a gorge on the Bay of Salerno, was in the 11th and 12th centuries the seat of the Amalfi...

Day 10: Corinth Canal Transit, Greece

A breathtaking and bucket list experience, crossing the Corinth Canal is the stuff of dreams. From a distance, this small crack in the coastline is unnoticeable, however as you drawn nearer, the impossible seems about to happen. As your eye is drawn down the stretch of 4-mile traverse, the inevitable “will we, won’t we” manage to squeeze through the 20-metre gap thrill becomes unavoidable.

Day 11: Piraeus (Athens), Greece

It's no wonder that all roads lead to the fascinating and maddening metropolis of Athens. Lift your eyes 200 feet above the city to the Parthenon, its honey-color marble columns rising from a massive limestone base, and you behold architectural perfection that has not...
