Behind the beach there is also a nature reserve, with many diverse bird inhabitants. Day 3 Mahón After breakfast, we depart for the island’s capital, Mahón, to board a sightseeing boat trip around the harbour, the biggest natural port in the Mediterranean. After free time to explore the city or visit the many shops, we then journey to the Xoriguer gin distillery to sample this distinctly aromatic gin, originally created during Menorca’s 18th century British rule. Our tour continues to the village of Binibeca Vell - a collection of white-washed cube houses designed by Antonio Sintes in 1972 in the style of a traditional Menorcan fishing village. Day 4 Son Bou Enjoy a day at leisure today, or join an optional island tour revealing Menorca’s unspoilt beauty. This excursion stops first at Hort Sant Patrici, a cheese farm where you taste typical Menorcan cheeses, before continuing to the beautiful fishing village of Fornells where mouthwatering cuisine is served in waterfront restaurants. Head to Monte Toro, the highest point on the island at 358m; you can visit the sanctuary here before taking in the breathtaking views. The final stop will be Cala Galdana, a beautiful resort on Menorca’s south coast, considered one of the best beaches on the island. Day 5 Son Bou - Santa Ponsa, Mallorca Following breakfast we transfer to the nearby port for a ferry to the island of Mallorca and on arrival continue to Santa Ponsa. We check in to our hotel, the H10 Casa del Mar (4T) for a five-night stay with dinner included each evening. The rest of the day is free to relax and familiarise yourself with your hotel. Day 6 Santa Ponsa The hotel is located in an attractive bay on the western coast of Mallorca and today is free to spend as you wish. Santa Ponsa itself is known for white sand beaches and a lively marina, or you can simply make use of the hotel’s facilities - take a dip in the swimming pool, or enjoy a tranquil treatment at the spa. Day 7 Inca - Port de Pollença - Formentor - Alcúdia Today we cross the island from south to north, on a scenic drive stopping first in the town of Inca, known as the ‘city of leather’ for its shoe and leather goods industry. We learn more about this on a visit to one of the factories, before continuing to Port de Pollença for a boat journey to Formentor (subject to sea conditions). Arguably the most beautiful beach on the island, it is set against a stunning backdrop of pine forest and mountains accompanied by fine sands and glistening turquoise blue waters. There will be free time for swimming before we re-join our coach, travelling past many olive groves, to Alcúdia and its bustling local market where you can get a taste of the local culture and shop for a range of items from leather goods to fruit and vegetables. Day 8 Santa Ponsa Take a day at leisure, or join a half-day optional excursion to Valldemossa, considered one of the prettiest villages in Mallorca. Located in a picturesque valley in the midst of the Tramuntana Mountains, it has been inspiration for many writers, artists and composers, including Chopin who spent time here in 1838, at the 14th century Carthusian Monastery. After exploring the monastery, including the different ‘cells’ in which they stayed, the pharmacy and the church, conclude at an exhibition of folklore dancing in the grand Palace of King Sancho. Day 9 Santa Ponsa Today is another free day to enjoy at your hotel, or join an optional excursion to the picturesque mountain village of Esporles and La Granja, a museum of Mallorcan traditions and history. Within the farmstead there exists a grand 17th century mansion belonging to an aristocratic family, tranquil gardens, and lush vegetation. During your visit you will sample some typical Mallorcan food and many types of local handicrafts.
