The Canary Islands with Madeira

Day 1 Southampton Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to Southampton, where our staff will greet you and assist with embarking Braemar (3T+) in preparation for a late evening sailing. Day 2 At sea A day at sea, giving you time to relax and familiarise yourself with the extensive facilities on board. Day 3 La Coruña, Spain La Coruña is a delightful city of both ancient monuments and modernist houses, which stretch along the distorted coastline. At the far reaches of a small peninsula stands La Coruña’s Roman landmark, Torre de Hercules, said to be the only Roman lighthouse in existence. Great views can be witnessed from the top of this 60m tower. Some Roman remains may be spotted as you wander through the impressive old quarter where you will also find the medieval Church of Santiago and impressive galleries and museums, including the Museum of Sacred Art and the Military Museum. Days 4-5 At sea Day 6 Funchal, Madeira This morning we arrive in Funchal, the picturesque capital of the Portuguese island of Madeira. Founded in the 15th century, it has long attracted visitors including Sir Winston Churchill, who spent much time painting the beautiful scenes. Perhaps explore the famous Botanical Gardens, home to 2,500 exotic plant species from across the world, hike through the Laurel Forest in search of endemic birds and plants, stroll through the historic Old Town or enjoy the delicious local seafood. Day 7 Santa Cruz, La Palma La Palma was conquered by the King of Castile in the 15th century and became an important trading post. The wealth attained here created a small, pretty capital city with a historic quarter of stunning palaces, sumptuous merchants’ houses, a grand town hall and magnificent religious buildings, including the Renaissance-style Church of El Salvador, with a tower of volcanic stone. Our cruise continues this evening. Day 8 Santa Cruz, Tenerife We dock in Tenerife early this morning, to spend a full day visiting the bustling capital, Santa Cruz, and its surrounds. Visit its boutiques, art galleries and the fascinating Museum of Nature and Man, with its displays on the natural history and archaeology of the Canary Islands, or head out of town to spend the day on one of the island’s sandy beaches. Day 9 Gran Tarajal, Fuerteventura Gran Tarajal is one of the largest towns on the island of Fuerteventura, and offers an authentic taste of Canaries culture. The streets are fairly steep, but walks into the town centre are rewarded with notable monuments like the fountain of six seahorses and the 20th century church. Stroll along the beautiful promenade alongside beaches of volcanic sand, and visit the pretty harbour offering great views of the busy local fishermen and winding hillside streets. We depart early this afternoon. Day 10 At sea A full day at sea, allowing you time to relax and enjoy the ship’s facilities. Day 11 Lisbon, Portugal We arrive in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, late morning. One of Europe’s most beautiful cities, Lisbon entrances visitors with its wealth of grand buildings, from baroque churches and palaces to art nouveau façades and striking contemporary architecture. Perhaps visit the Jeronimos Monastery, last resting place of Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama, the UNESCO-listed Belem Tower, built in 1515 to protect the city’s harbour, the superb collection of modern art at the Barardo Museum or older works at the National Museum of Ancient Art. In between sightseeing, relax in one of Lisbon’s many cafés and try a pastel de nata - a traditional egg-custard tart. We leave Lisbon late evening. Days 12-13 At sea Take time to relax on your return voyage to the UK, with two full days at sea. Day 14 Southampton We disembark after breakfast and you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
