What travelers are saying

"I went on the Intrepid 15 day "Best of Morocco" tour in 2025 and had such an amazing time that I wasn't ready to leave by the time the trip finished! It exceeded my expectations in so many ways: value for money, itinerary, a lot of included activities balanced with lots of rest stops on longer travel days, very caring & attentive local guides, and lots of optional activities. As a company, Intrepid was very easy to communicate with before the trip started (I had sent a few questions about optional activities). The website is also easy to navigate and simple for updating travel & health information. If you are considering doing a tour with Intrepid - make sure you read the Essential Trip Information they have on each tour page. It describes everything in detail so you'll know what to expect. While I LOVED my tour, I can see some people signing up for this without reading the description and then being surprised at some of the 2 star hotels (in this case it was the "Original" tour style). Overall, I am impressed at how this tour managed to simultaneously get us closer to Moroccan culture AND feel like an adventure AND feel like a vacation from day-to-day life back home. I would travel with Intrepid again."

What travelers are saying

"My wife and I did the six day Lofoten Islands tour offered by 50 Degrees North. The tour is simple, they provided us a rental car, accommodations for two nights each at three Rorbuer hotels scattered across the islands, and a couple of scheduled day tours. Most of the time, we were on our own to see the islands at our own pace. The islands are stunningly beautiful, and the tour planning made our travels hassle free. They even scheduled lunch for us at an organic goat farm, which may sound a little strange for a vacation like this, but that is only because you haven't tasted the cheese. (Best lunch ever!) At our request, they altered the tour slightly so that we could begin the tour in Svolvaer and end it six days later at the airport in Leknes. We can't imagine a more complete tour of the islands in six short days."

What travelers are saying

"Great trip covering highlights of Kerala. Fabulous tour leader and support team. The rides started easy and flat, and became progressively harder with increasingly longer hills as we headed into the mountains. The slow pace suited my ability. The spinning classes I did as preparation definitely paid off. The heat and humidity were challenging! Road conditions were better than expected. The bikes could have been in better condition- the mechanic was great in sorting out issues on the way. Most of the participants missed their various connecting flights arranged by Explore, including us! Arriving at 5am and having to be prepared to cycle at 8.30am wasn’t fun! Explore really need to consider this as I think it’s a regular occurrence!"

Lithuania Tour Selection Trips

  • Lithuania is a small country, and is often included on larger regional tours of the Baltic states (Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia); tours sometimes range even farther afield, and include neighboring countries such as Poland, Belarus, or Russia. Consider if you want to take a regional tour, or if you’d prefer to go on a more focused or specialized tour in Lithuania only.
  • In a similar vein, most tour operators in the Baltics also offer a wide range of options for travel style, from self-guided road trips to large group bus tours to small group walking or bicycling tours. If you have specific needs or preferences, you’ll have plenty of choices and tour operators who will be happy to work with you to build your ideal trip.
  • Make sure you pick the best time of the year to go depending on your interests. Winters in Lithuania are cold and snowy, great for winter sports — but if you prefer warmer weather for outdoors or sightseeing tours, late spring through early autumn is the ideal time to visit.
  • On that note, summer is the peak tourism season in Lithuania. If you’d like to visit some of the country’s top attractions (such as Old Town Vilnius) but prefer to avoid crowds, booking a tour in the late spring or early autumn will allow you to catch the sunshine and warmer weather with slightly less company from other travelers.
  • Lithuania is a country known for its national pride, unique language, history, and cuisine, and beautiful handcrafted goods. For a more in-depth experience of Lithuania, look for tours that visit smaller towns as well as bigger cities, and offer options to learn about local customs and traditions or try local food.

Additional details

Where is Lithuania?

Lithuania is located in northeastern Europe, on the southeastern coast of the Baltic Sea. It lies to the east of Sweden and Denmark, and is bordered to the north by Latvia, to the south and east by Belarus, & to the south by Poland. It is considered one of the Baltic states, alongside Latvia and Estonia; tours to Lithuania will often be included in Baltic tours that also visit these two countries.

Lithuanian Language + Common Phrases

Lithuanian is one of the oldest living Indo-European languages in the world, and retains archaic language features that are only found in other ancient languages such as Sanskrit or Ancient Greek. Lithuanian is closely related to Latvian, and shares some similarities with Germanic, Slavic, and other Indo-European languages. However, it’s important to distinguish that Lithuanian is considered a Baltic language, rather than a Slavic one.

Today, Lithuanian spoken by about 2.8 million native speakers within Lithuania and about 200,000 abroad. Russian, Polish, and German are also spoken by some citizens in certain areas and by certain generations due to the country’s complex political history. Today, English is the most widely spoken foreign language; the majority of the younger generation speaks English, and it is commonly used in restaurants, hotels, and other tourism-oriented establishments. As such, travelers on Lithuania guided tours can feel confident that they’ll be able to get by in Lithuania even if they only speak English.

However, for travelers interested in trying their hand at Lithuanian, here’s a few of the most common words and phrases:

Hello: Labas (lah-bahs)

Good Bye: Viso gero (vee-saw gheh-raw)

Thank You: Aciu (ah-choo)

Please: Prasau (prah-show)

Sorry/excuse me: Atsiprasau (ah-tsih-prah-shaoo)

Yes: Taip (tuyp)

No: Ne (na)

How are you?: Kaip sekasi? (cape sah-ke-se)

Help!: Padėkite!( pah-deh-kit-uh)

My name is…: Mano vardas… (mah-no var-dahs)

Best Time to Visit

For warmer weather and longer days, late spring, summer, and early fall are the best times to visit. Months such as May and September will also have the added benefit of less crowds — so if you’re looking to visit busy tourist destinations but avoid the crowds, planning your trip for these “shoulder seasons” might be the best option. If you’re looking for a winter getaway, December through March will have consistently below-freezing temps and plenty of snow. Finally, for those looking to include bird-watching in their Baltic itinerary, March-April or September-October are your best bets.

Weather in Lithuania

Because Lithuania is located relatively far north, summers tend to be short and winters tend to be cold and dark. Summers are usually hot and dry, but nights can be cooler and rain is also a possibility; aside from winter, Lithuania’s weather is known to be inconsistent, so make sure to pack layers even if you’re visiting in the summer. Winter is consistently cold, and snowfall can come as early as mid-November. (For reference, November-March will have temps consistently below freezing even during the day, whereas temperatures in May-August can get as high as around 70 degrees Fahrenheit).
