Itinerary
Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Bangkok.
On arrival in to Bangkok you will be met by your driver and guide and chauffeured to your hotel. Evening at your own leisure.
You have a full day to explore the highlights of this bustling capital including the Grand Palace and the network of backwater canals or klongs.
This morning sees you explore some of Bangkok's local markets before being taken to the airport in time for your flight to the ancient capital of Sukhothai in the afternoon, where you will be met and escorted to your hotel.
Today you visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site and first capital of the Kingdom of Siam, Sukhothai. The historical park is a wonderfully preserved example of this fallen city that was sacked by the Burmese in the 14th Century. A great way of exploring the park is by hiring a bike late afternoon as the sun changes the hues of the crumbling Buddha effigies and temples.
In the morning you have more time to explore some of the historical sites around Sukhothai before departing for the sleepy town of Nan. Situated close to the Laos border, Nan is an interesting half way point for intrepid travellers taking an alternative route between the north and Sukhothai. This small town has many interesting temples to visit as well a municipal museum.
From Nan continue through the mountains to the Golden Triangle region where the countries of Thailand, Laos and Burma converge. Enjoy the views as the road winds through stunning, picturesque scenery. Stay overnight at the Lanjia Lodge, a delightful community-based lodge nestled on a hill overlooking the Mekong River and staffed by local Hmong villagers.
Explore the area around Lanjia Lodge and learn about the Hmong community that live in the area.
This morning you will travel to the provincial capital of Chiang Rai where you will board a boat to take you to Thaton, stopping at small villages along the way. From Thaton you continue by road to Doi Angkhang, a little visited mountain retreat nestled on the Burmese border. This area is dubbed 'Little Switzerland' for its stunning scenery and alpine feel.
Enjoy the day exploring Doi Angkhang on foot and by bicycle.
From Doi Angkhang you travel along mountain roads before reaching the main road to Chiang Mai. Spend three nights in the capital of northern Thailand soaking up the atmosphere of this charming city.
A day to explore Chiang Mai at your own leisure.
You will learn the art of Thai cuisine today at the locally run A Lot Of Thai cookery school, starting with a morning visit to the market to buy all of your fresh ingredients.
This morning you will be transferred to the airport in plenty of time for your flight to Bangkok and your connecting flight home. Your return flight will arrive the same day.
