What's this trip about?

Start your Alpine interrail route off with a stay in the sophisticated city of Vienna, lavished in rich culture and steeped in imperial history. This route takes you in and out of the Alps through Austria, Germany and Switzerland, before winding up in Luxembourg and ending in Belgium. Stick closely to the scenic mountains with our one-week route, or add an Amsterdam jaunt with our longer three-week trip. After Vienna, continue on to the breath-taking Alpine backdrop of Salzburg for the perfect Instagram-worthy stay. You’ll then hop across the border to Germany, where you can tour Munich’s many breweries and sample scrumptious Bavarian cuisine. Next, you’ll head to Switzerland with views of the snow-capped peaks of Zurich and Interlaken. Why head to the beach to sip cocktails and craft beers, when you’ve got Zurich’s coolest watering holes right by the lakeside?

Travel Map

Day 1-3: Vienna (2 Nights)

Vienna is crisp, clean and chic with its biggest draw factor being the multitude of classical palaces and grand imperial buildings. Whether you’re into your royal history or not, the sheer scale of it here will be encapsulating for all, whilst not forgetting the great bars and eateries.

Day 4-5: Munich (2 Nights)

The capital of Bavaria and Germany’s second city will draw you in with its elegance and attractions to match the big names in Europe, with its pedestrianised city centre and impressive monuments, museums and art galleries; as well as beer, and plenty of it at Oktoberfest.

Day 6: Interlaken (1 Nights)

Interlaken is truly a hidden Swiss gem, a pretty little town nestled in between two gorgeous lakes and a valley of three snow-capped peaks, it has earned a reputation for adventure sports like paragliding and an exciting apres-ski scene to rival that of any other Alpine resort.

Day 7: Zurich (1 Nights)

Being a city in a historically neutral country means that the medieval centre of Zurich is untouched by war damage, unlike many of its European neighbours. The city has a lot more going for it than the banks it is associated with and a walk along the picturesque lake Zurich is a must.
