Highlights

• Visit such iconic Maya ruins as Chichén Itzá, Cobá, and Tulúm, as well as several lesser-known but equally impressive ruins.
• Visit world-class protected areas, including Ría Lagartos Biosphere Reserve (known for its resident flamingo population and coastal crocodiles), and Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve on the Caribbean coast near Tulúm.
• Watch for wildlife and tropical birds, including parrots, trogons, hummingbirds, and rarer birds like the Hook-billed and Gray-headed Kites, Hawk Eagle, and the magnificent King Vulture.
• Visit a mangrove swamp estuary in Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve.
• Stroll through the Dr. Alfredo Barrera Marín Botanical Garden, established to protect Quintana Roo’s regional flora and fauna.
• Take a dip in a sinkhole, Gran Cenote, for swimming and snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters.

Join fellow members of the Sauk Prairie Conservation Alliance on a spectacular adventure in one of Mexico’s most ecologically and culturally diverse regions—the Yucatán Peninsula. On this trip, you’ll explore coastal wetlands, sinkholes, Caribbean shores, and dense protected forests. You’ll also visit some of the most iconic Maya ruins in the world. The region is rich in wildlife, and we hope to see monkeys, flamingos, parrots, tropical raptors, colorful tanagers, and motmots. The Alliance’s director, Charlie Luthin, has traveled extensively in this region and he will share his knowledge and expertise, along with our bilingual guide who accompanies us for the duration of the trip.
