What's this trip about?

Vast, remote and breathtaking, Mongolia is a country of wild, unspoiled beauty. The land of Genghis Khan, Mongolia rose under this extraordinary leader to become the largest land empire in global history. Today, modern Mongolia is divided between the bustle of its cities and the nomadic lifestyle that still dominates the expansive countryside. Cycle a tour like no other; challenge yourself to overcome rocky trails, soak in ancient ruins, and adventure forth across the barren landscape. This is off-road biking at its truest.

Day 1

Welcome to Mongolia! Meet for a trip briefing, city tour, and a unique show of contortion and throat singing followed by a traditional dinner.

Day 2

We transfer across vast open steppes to the "little Gobi", where we explore the hilly steppes, impressive granite formations, and extensive sand dunes. Go for a dune walk or a camel ride before continuing to Arvaikheer.

Day 3

After a two-hour transfer to the Khangai foothills, we ride through a picturesque region dominated by dome-shaped mountains, mixed woods, clear streams, and lush grassy valleys to our first tented camp.

Day 4

We start biking, ascending along a mountain river before a challenging zigzag up to a 2911-m pass and a breath-taking view. We ride towards the Shargaljuut River valley until we reach our campsite.

Day 5

We ride past herds of yaks and local nomads and descend 200 m to a lunch spot on the top of the Khebel Pass. We take on a grassy track all the way to the top of Morin Pass, followed by a swift downhill.

Day 6

Ride towards Oromtiin Pass and prepare yourself for a challenging climb, followed by a fast descent to our riverside lunch spot. Continue to Khukhiin Pass where we're faced with a short but vertical 2,800-m climb before enjoying an exhilarating downhill all the way to the camp site.

Day 7

Ride along a river that flows into the Gobi Desert. We transfer across the main water divide of the Khangai range, where we bring out the bikes again and descend to our overnight campsite by the river.

Day 8

Leaving the valley, we take on a series of short but steep passes with excellent descents to more smooth ground. Your last descent takes you to Bulgan and then the South Tamir River.

Day 9

We ride to Tsenkher River, famous for its hot spring baths, where we enjoy a well-deserved soak.

Day 10

A challenging yet pleasurable day of cycling where we gain the most elevation of the entire trip at 1,250 m. We ride on to the Orkhon River valley, often referred to as the cradle of Mongolian civilization.

Day 11

We start our final day of cycling by riding along the Orkhon river to Karakorum. Visit the monastery museum of Erdene Zuu and the new Karakorum museum.

Day 12

After breakfast, we drive to Ulannbaatar, and the rest of the day will be free to explore the city or to just rest before dinner.

Day 13

Reflect on all that you witnessed and experienced in this amazing country as you prepare for your onward journey.
