What's this trip about?

This enchanting cruise itinerary aboard the splendid Azamara Quest® places great emphasis on spending time in each port, allowing you to explore and discover. Amalfi, looking just like the postcard - a picturesque town built into the cliffs overlooking the beautiful blue sea below, and then Taormina, Sicily with its beautiful beaches, historic ruins and Mount Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe. Then on to Kotor and Dubrovnik, two of the best-preserved medieval towns in the Adriatic, before the cruise ends with an overnight stay in Venice. Our arrangements then include a three-night stay on the shores of beautiful Lake Garda, including a visit to the charming peninsula of Sirmione.

Itinerary

Day 1 London - Rome Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to London Heathrow Airport and a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to Rome. On arrival, we transfer to Civitavecchia to embark Azamara Quest® (5T), with time to settle into your stateroom before dinner this evening. Day 2 Amalfi Wedged into the mouth of a ravine, encircled by sheer cliffs and blue waters, it is hard to believe that this tranquil little town was once a great naval power. Amalfi is set on a stunning coastline, where terraced hillsides support lemon groves and the region’s famed limoncello is produced. Ship to shore tender service. Day 3 Giardini Naxos (Taormina), Sicily Giardini Naxos, considered the first Greek colony in Sicily, is an ideal base from which to explore the island. Neighbouring Taormina is a lovely small medieval town perched on high cliffs, with spectacular views over the bay and rugged coastline. Crops of olives, citrus and grapes thrive on farmland which is enriched by volcanic soil, deposited by Europe’s most active volcano - Mount Etna. Climb higher and you will find forests, the scars left by old lava flows, and eventually the crater where smoke and simmering lava is sometimes visible. Ship to shore tender service. Day 4 Corfu, Greece One of the most beautiful islands in all of the Mediterranean, Corfu is said to cast a spell upon those who land upon its shores, which is perhaps why Shakespeare set his magical play, The Tempest, here. A leisurely stroll through the narrow alleyways of Corfu’s old town will reveal many local treasures - old churches, a Byzantine cathedral, small enticing shops, and tavernas offering local wines and fresh seafood. Day 5 Kotor, Montenegro Kotor’s beautiful bay has long attracted ships that stopped to trade, plunder, or conquer. Spend today strolling along cobblestone streets where merchants of numerous empires have walked, designed in a maze to confuse unwanted pirates and soldiers. There are several landmarks to help you navigate, including the 12th century St Tryphon Cathedral and several distinct churches. Day 6 Dubrovnik, Croatia Dubrovnik has long been a centre for Croatian culture, and home to artists and scholars of all disciplines. Walk within the thick city walls to find a criss-cross of ancient streets, squares, fountains, palaces and monasteries. Walk atop the medieval walls for fantastic views across the city, or delve into museums to take a closer look at the city’s turbulent past. Day 7 Koper, Slovenia Beautiful Tito Square (Titov Trg), in the heart of Koper’s Old Town, is an ideal starting point today. Explore the arcaded Venetian Gothia Loggia, the gleaming white 15th century Praetorian Palace Armoury, 12th century baptistery and climb 204 steps up the belfry of the Cathedral of the Assumption for wonderful views. Alternatively, take this opportunity to explore Slovenia’s beautiful capital, Ljubljana, or the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Skocjan Caves, the world’s largest underground canyon. Then, enjoy a wonderful AzAmazing EveningSM choir performance at Tito Square. Day 8 Venice, Italy (overnight) Venice is one of the world’s most beautiful cities, and arguably the most romantic. Consisting of more than 100 small islands connected by arched bridges, its thoroughfares are canals, and transportation options are limited to boats and your own two feet. With an early morning arrival, we have the whole of the day and night to explore, perhaps taking a gondola ride and strolling the winding traffic-free streets along the canal sides - prime real estate for the palaces of the aristocracy of old. Day 9 Venice - Verona - Lake Garda We disembark this morning and travel to the elegant city of Verona, forever associated with William Shakespeare. After some free time, we continue to Lake Garda and our hotel for the next three nights, the Hotel Acquaviva del Garda (4T), located opposite beautiful Lake Garda. We enjoy an included dinner at the hotel tonight. Day 10 Sirmione We travel to the southern banks of Lake Garda to explore Sirmione, a beautiful peninsula that has been inhabited since the Stone Age. Wealthy Romans holidayed here to enjoy the natural springs and the impressive three-storey Roman villa, Grotto of Catullus, still dominates the tip of the peninsula, despite the wear of time; while the magnificent Scaligera Fortress is a reminder of the serious side of medieval life. Return to Bardolino for an afternoon at leisure, and maybe a stroll along the picturesque shore. Day 11 Lake Garda A day at leisure to enjoy the splendid surroundings of your hotel. Day 12 Lake Garda - Verona - London We transfer to Verona Airport for a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to London Gatwick Airport. On arrival you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
