Classic Cyprus

Day 1 London - Larnaca/Paphos Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to London Heathrow or Gatwick Airport for a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to Larnaca or Paphos. On arrival we transfer to the excellent Alexander the Great Hotel (4T) in Paphos. Day 2 Paphos This morning we have an included guided tour of Paphos, former ancient Roman capital of the island, where you can discover some of the rich history. Visit the House of Dionysos, named for the mosaic floor that depicts Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, riding a panther. It is one of many impressive mosaics that still lay here amongst the remains of the Roman governor’s house, depicting myths and hunting scenes. We continue to the Tombs of the Kings, the remarkable burial site for about one hundred high officials and aristocrats carved into solid rock around 300 BC. Fragments of their frescoes are also still visible. Day 3 Kyrenia The impressive mountains of Pentadaktylos, the ‘Five Fingers’, await us this morning as we travel to the northern part of Cyprus. Today we cross the Green Line that has divided the Greeks and the Turks since 1974, to visit the town of Kyrenia. Our visit starts from Bellapais village where we visit the famous Gothic ‘Peace Monastery’. We continue to the town of Kyrenia, where there will be free time for you to enjoy the picturesque harbour, filled with yachts and boats watched over by the impenetrable moated Lusignan castle. Day 4 Paphos Today you are at leisure. Paphos was Cyprus’ first settlement in 4th century BC, and played an important role in the island’s development, however the feel here is far from modern. The old harbour can be reached on a walk from the hotel, along the promenade. Maybe continue following the path to Paphos Fort, a castle that has been rebuilt numerous times since its Byzantine origin. Alternatively, take an optional excursion to visit the ancient city of Kourion (Curium), one of the most important archaeological sites in Cyprus and the 13th century Kolossi Castle to the west of Limassol. Day 5 Paphos Another day at leisure, or take an optional excursion to Larnaca to see the magnificent Church of St Lazarus. Inside the church, with three aisles and three domes, you can see icons, silver furnishings and carved woodwork. After visiting the church, enjoy free time to stroll along the palm-lined promenade and relax in one of the many cafés. Day 6 Troodos Mountains Today we travel into the refreshingly cool Troodos Mountains. We have included a guided tour of Kykkos Monastery, nestled into a valley of cedar trees, 1,318 metres above sea level. Many Cypriots make the pilgrimage to the richest and most lavish monastery of Cyprus, meticulously maintained by numerous monks. On a towering hill known as ‘the Throne of the Virgin Mary’, (weather permitting) you can enjoy fantastic views across Cyprus. We visit the famous wine producing villages of ancient Platres and beautiful Omodos, known also for its lace and carob, before heading back to Paphos. Day 7 Paphos Another day at leisure to relax or explore the hotel surroundings. A local bus service can transport you to the city’s farther flung highlights including the large market, filled with lace and souvenirs, and the remains of the catacombs identifiable by a handkerchief tree that stands by the road. An optional excursion to Nicosia is also available. Day 8 Paphos/Larnaca - London We transfer to Larnaca or Paphos Airport for a direct scheduled, British Airways flight to London Heathrow or Gatwick Airport. On arrival you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
