What's this trip about?

Fred. Olsen’s Braemar diverts away from Norway’s well-travelled coastal routes and sails straight into the heart of stunning fjordland on this spectacular cruise - one that offers an exhilarating introduction to the outstanding natural beauty of the fjords, taking in rugged scenes from the glass-like waters. And when ashore, you can choose to delve further into Norway’s beautiful wilderness, taking in views of incredible waterfalls and glaciers, or take some time to explore Norway’s culture, in the former ‘European Capital of Culture’ Stavanger, and Bergen, where colourful wooden houses line the UNESCO-protected quayside as a reminder of its 900-year maritime heritage.

Itinerary

Day 1 Southampton Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to Southampton, where our staff will greet you and assist with embarking Braemar (3T+) in preparation for a late evening sailing. Day 2 At sea A day at sea, giving you time to relax and familiarise yourself with the extensive facilities on board. Day 3 Stavanger, Norway Behind the bustle of the prosperous and cosmopolitan Stavanger of today lie 1,000 years of ancient seafaring tradition and history. This vibrant, exciting Norwegian city was awarded the prestigious title of ‘European Capital of Culture’ in 2008. You may choose to spend your afternoon exploring the old town, Gamle Stavanger, where ancient wooden houses line narrow winding streets and an historic fresh fish and vegetable market; and visit the Norwegian Petroleum Museum or Herring Canning Museum - two industries that brought wealth to the town. Or view breathtaking Lysefjord, one of the most famous Norwegian Fjords. This stunning waterway is home to the Kjerag Mountain and Preikestolen (The Pulpit Rock) - two of the country's most popular attractions. Day 4 Bergen Hanseatic Bergen is steeped in maritime heritage. One of its most popular attractions is the 900-year-old UNESCO-listed Bryggen Wharf, lined with traditional half-timbered buildings. Troldhaugen was once the home of Norway's most famous composer, Edvard Grieg, complete with a secluded hut for composing and a 200-seat concert hall. It is now a museum devoted to his life’s work. For a great way to escape the city, the funicular railway can whisk you to the top of Mount Fløyen where spectacular panoramic views include Bergen, and the fjords and mountains which confine it. Day 5 Olden - Cruising Nordfjord and Hornelen Pretty Olden sits amongst flowering meadows and charming babbling brooks. It is at the end of the beautiful Oldedalen Valley, where huge vertical cliffs, a string of spectacular waterfalls, and sparkling glaciers such as the astonishing Briksdal create beautiful scenes for adventure. Briksdal is just one arm of Jostedalsbreen, mainland Europe’s largest glacier. Our cruise continues late this afternoon along tranquil Nordfjord, one of Norway's longest and most picturesque fjords, and later tonight we glide alongside Hornelen, Europe’s highest sea cliff, still clearly visible in the midnight sunlight. Ship to shore tender service. Day 6 Eidfjord - Cruising Hardangerfjord The village of Eidfjord is possibly the most beautiful place in the Norwegian fjords, located beneath a backdrop of soaring, snow-peaked mountains within the breathtaking Hardangerfjord, a gateway to some of the region's most spectacular natural features. Meander through clusters of wooden-slat homes and old churches to Hæreid, the largest Viking burial site from the Iron Age. Or take an excursion into Måbødalen Valley, where Voringsfossen Waterfall tumbles an impressive 182 metres down the mountains. Late this afternoon we sail along Hardangerfjord, the world’s third largest fjord at 179km long. Relax as we pass spellbinding scenes of orchards (much of Norway’s fruit is grown here), steep cliffs and waterfalls. Day 7 Cruising Lysefjord We have one last opportunity to witness Norway’s natural beauty as we cruise Lysefjord, lined by magnificent mountains and cliff faces a kilometre high. If these are not spectacular enough, look out for Kjeragbolten, a large rock wedged in one of Mount Kjerag’s crevices. How this boulder became lodged 1084m above Lysefjorden is mind-blowing. We then bid farewell to Norway as we start our cruise back across the North Sea. Day 8 At sea Day 9 Southampton We disembark after breakfast and you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
