What's this trip about?

An exploration of the USA’s New England states and the eastern provinces of Canada presents a glorious collection of iconic and historical cities, twinned with beautiful and breathtaking natural wonders. Our new holiday begins in Massachusetts’ revolutionary capital of Boston, before journeying north along the Maine coast to the pretty harbour of Perkins Cove and on to Bar Harbor. From here you can discover the soaring granite cliffs and mountainous interior of Acadia National Park, before continuing to the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee and a two-night stay close to the serene White Mountains. Across the border into Canada, four of its great cities await, including cosmopolitan Montréal, picturesque Québec City, Canada’s green capital of Ottawa, and culture-filled Toronto. After an unforgettable day at Niagara Falls, cross back into the USA to conclude this wonderful exploration in New York State and the Big Apple, a city that overflows with an infectious character and atmosphere and where a visit to the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum is included.

Itinerary

Day 1 London - Boston Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to London Heathrow Airport and a direct, scheduled Virgin Atlantic flight to Boston Logan Airport. On arrival we transfer to the Boston Sheraton Hotel (4T), with the rest of the day at leisure to relax or explore the fashionable district of Back Bay. Day 2 Boston A guided tour takes us to Boston’s historic sites and architecturally important neighbourhoods this morning. We explore trendy Back Bay, historical Copley Square and charming Beacon Hill; and travel along the Freedom Trail to discover some of the moments that shaped the American Revolution, including the rebellious Boston Tea Party which roused the colonies into action. We also see the house of Paul Revere, who alerted the Lexington Minutemen of the imminent arrival of the British in 1775, and visit the Old North Church where lanterns were lit on Revere’s signal, igniting the Revolution. Your afternoon is free to explore or join an optional excursion to see more of Boston, including Harvard Square, the Mapparium and the JFK Library and Museum. Day 3 Boston - Ogunquit - Bar Harbor Depart the city of Boston for the Maine coast, where we walk the Marginal Way, a mile-long, paved footpath along Maine’s beautiful coastline from Ogunquit to Perkins Cove, a safe harbour for the town’s fishing boats and home to seafood restaurants, lobster shacks and quaint shops. We continue to the coastal town of Bar Harbor, and check in to the Holiday Inn Bar Harbor Regency (4T) for two nights. Day 4 Acadia National Park - Bar Harbor We spend our morning discovering one of America’s oldest and most beautiful national parks. Acadia National Park covers much of Mount Desert Island and is the first spot that sunlight hits America each morning. We travel along the Loop Road to view Frenchman Bay Overlook, Sand Beach, Jordan Pond House and Mount Cadillac, the tallest mountain on the Atlantic coast. The stunning, rugged and forested landscape is home to an abundance of plant life and wildlife which includes moose, bear, raccoons, bald eagles and peregrine falcons. We return to Bar Harbor to spend the rest of the day exploring this picturesque town. Day 5 Bar Harbor - Portland - Meredith We head through Maine to Portland, a historic seacoast town, for time to explore and take lunch at leisure. You may like to take this opportunity to board a boat for a narrated cruise through Casco Bay, home to lighthouses and forts, seals and seabirds. We then head inland to Meredith, in New Hampshire. We stay at the charming Mill Falls at the Lake (3T), on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee. Day 6 White Mountains Spend today on our journey along roads that wind through the spectacular White Mountains. First stop is Cannon Mountain where you will take the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway for incredible views of the surrounding scenery, before finding civilisation again in the town of North Conway, home to nearly one hundred stores, fine art galleries and factory outlets. We return to Meredith via the Kancamagus Highway, regarded as one of the most scenic byways in New England. Day 7 Meredith - Montréal An early start today as we head across the Canadian border into the province of Québec. On arrival in Montréal, there will be time to purchase lunch before an afternoon sightseeing tour that includes Old Montréal and Mount Royal Park, the city’s highest point with fantastic views of the city. Starting as a mission colony of just 50 settlers, it has grown into a prominent city with three million citizens and a multitude of cultures; however the French roots and British influences still shine through as you explore this fascinating metropolis. Afterwards, we check in to Le Meridien Versailles (4T) for a two-night stay. Day 8 Québec City We enjoy a full-day excursion to Québec City. The perfectly-preserved, fortified Old Town offers plenty to see, with houses of English and French origin, soaring church spires and the beautiful Place Royale, and the luxury Château Frontenac hotel which has welcomed many famous guests including Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt during the important Québec Conferences of World War II. There will be time to explore at leisure before we return to Montréal. Day 9 Montréal - Ottawa - Toronto We depart for Ottawa, to take a short orientation tour of the vibrant capital that has some of the world’s most impressive parliament buildings. Enjoy lunch at leisure before we travel along the 1,000 Islands Parkway to the city of Toronto located on the shores of Lake Ontario. On arrival we check in to the Chelsea Hotel Toronto (3T) for two nights. Day 10 Toronto This morning, a local guide takes us on a morning orientation tour of Toronto. The city has a fine mix of museums and architecture that can only show some of the many cultures that have shaped it - with more than 140 languages spoken by a population of about 2.8 million people, it has grown quickly in the last 225 years and is considered one of the most liveable urban places in the world. Amongst the gleaming skyscrapers is the 553m CN Tower, and you have the opportunity to ascend this great landmark during your free afternoon, for views that can go on for over 100 miles. Day 11 Toronto - Niagara Falls - Syracuse Spend this morning at the mighty Niagara Falls - take a walk along the banks and experience the incredible sound of 750,000 gallons of water pouring over Horseshoe Falls. Optional excursions allow you to enjoy this phenomenal attraction from a boat, a small plane or helicopter. This afternoon we head back across the US border and on to the Genesee Grande (4T) in the city of Syracuse. Day 12 Syracuse - New York Today’s journey continues through New York State to New York City, where we check in to the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel New York Times Square West (4T), for a two-night stay just steps away from the Broadway theatre district. This evening you have the chance to take in the atmosphere of New York at night with an optional excursion in Greenwich Village and a tour of Manhattan Island, including the lights of Times Square. Day 13 New York This morning’s tour of New York takes in sights such as Central Park, Rockefeller Plaza, Times Square, 5th Avenue, Broadway, St Patrick’s Cathedral, Chinatown, the Financial District. Conclude at the poignant National 9/11 Memorial & Museum - the renowned site documenting and remembering the events on that day. The rest of the day is free to explore this iconic city, which played such a huge role in American history. You may like to take a ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, or view Manhattan from the skies by helicopter, on an optional excursion. Day 14 New York - In flight Time to explore further or take an optional excursion to Harlem. Later, we transfer to New York’s JFK Airport for a direct, scheduled Virgin Atlantic flight to London. Day 15 London Arrive at London Heathrow Airport where you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
