Requirements
Anyone undertaking a moderate to challenging adventure should be aware of the physical and mental demands involved. These treks are designed for a more experienced adventurer who is seeking a challenge. A good level of fitness is required as days can involve 8-10 hours of strenuous exercise in remote and rugged terrain. Altitudes are generally less than 5500 metres although higher pass crossings are possible. The terrain will often be rugged and some walks may be exploratory, venturing off the beaten track. Weather conditions may be harsh at times, and you will need to be comfortable trekking in adverse weather conditions. We suggest up to one hour of strenuous exercise 4-5 times per week, interspersed with a relatively demanding bushwalk at the weekend. The best exercise for trekking is bushwalking involving relatively steep ascents and descents; multi day walks are ideal preparation for our challenging adventures. Specialist gear required include walking boots and day pack (a comprehensive gear list is provided in the pre-departure information provided on booking).,
Travel Insurance
We require that you take out a personal travel insurance policy to cover against sickness, accident, loss of baggage, unexpected alterations to travel arrangements and travel disruption, emergency evacuation, cancellations, etc. A suggested policy is enclosed with these notes. If you take out an alternative policy, we need to be advised of the details. It is your responsibility to ensure any and all pre-existing medical conditions are adequately covered by your insurer. Please note: if you choose credit card cover, in our experience, this may not insure against high cost needs. For example; helicopter emergency evacuation. If you do decide to choose credit card coverage, please check all policy details thoroughly. You should always carry your travel insurance policy, emergency card and photocopies of your passport and cash cards with you during your trip.
