Itinerary

Arrive in vibrant Seattle for a day and night, meet our fellow expeditioners and fly to Juneau, Alaska’s capital. Spend a day whale watching, visiting local art galleries, shopping or enjoying one of many performing arts. Early afternoon on day three, we are warmly welcomed on board Wilderness Adventurer.
A winding fjord, waterfalls and glimpses of Rocky Mountain goats, lead us through Tracy Arm Wilderness to Sawyer Glaciers, where huge icebergs calve. We watch for bears, wolves, deer, Arctic terns and red breasted merlangers. We move to Frederick Sound, alive with hum...
Paddle into Port Houghton’s back bays, where low tide reveals a smorgasbord of shellfish for local bears, mink and oystercatchers, or take a backcountry walk along a wild river. Enjoy a free morning in fishing town Petersburg, nicknamed “Little Norway”, before whale watching in Frederick Sound and passing by the rocky islets of Chatham Strait alive with Stellar sea lions.
At Thomas Bay, trek through scenic rainforest or paddle the surreal blue meltwaters of Patterson Glacier, and learn of the area’s mythical, shape-shifting creatures called Kushtaka.
In pristine Tongass National Forest, we explore Chatham Strait’s Kuiu and Barnof Islands, perhaps snorkelling for underwater life. We navigate the Sergius Narrows to Sitka, Southeast Alaska’s oldest non-Native settlement where Russian American and Tlingit history comes to life.
Enjoy orcas, seals, otters and sea lions; mink and marten on the shore and eagles overhead. We enter Icy Strait and cruise the shores of Chichagof Island renowned for its bear population.
We trek and paddle to the hidden corners of spectacular Glacier Bay National Park, where tidewater glaciers sweep down and mountain goats, bears and moose roam. Near South Marble Island, we see puffins and black oystercatchers.
After breakfast, transfer to Juneau airport for our flight to Seattle.
