Travel Map

Day 1:

Fly to Washington and transfer to Richmond, Virginia for a one-night stay.

Day 2:

Begin your journey south this morning, travelling first through North, then South Carolina, to the beachfront resort of Myrtle Beach for an overnight stay. Enjoy your beachfront hotel's surroundings, or head to one of the nearby restaurants for dinner.

Day 3:

This morning, after breakfast, we'll head to Charleston, the epitome of southern elegance. Join our included city tour, and discover Waterfront Park and the historic district before we journey south to Savannah, the most beautiful of 'southern belles', for a two-night stay.

Day 4:

Explore the antebellum mansions, shaded squares and cotton warehouses of Savannah's historic quarter. An optional guided city tour will introduce you to the city's history and its associations with the slave trade and the Civil War, after which you're free to wander the dogwood and azalea-lined streets of the historic quarter.

Day 5:

Head inland to Asheville, North Carolina, on the edge of Smoky Mountains National Park. We'll spend the next two nights in this former haunt of F. Scott Fitzgerald and Henry Ford - an eclectic and diverse town that boasts a vibrant art community and unique shops.

Day 6:

This morning's visit to downtown Asheville is followed by our optional excursion to Biltmore House and Gardens. The famous estate built by George Vanderbilt over 100 years ago includes a majestic 250-room mansion, manicured gardens, a respected winery, a 'village' of crafts shops and several places to eat.

Day 7:

After a relaxing morning in Asheville, board the coach and take a leisurely journey to the historic 'twin' town of Winston-Salem. We'll stop in delightful Old Salem, which still retains the essence of the original European settlement, before we continue into Virginia and head to Roanoke.

Day 8:

Enjoy another unforgettable day in the magnificent Blue Ridge Mountains. Catch your breath on the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway - a refuge for deer and other wildlife - and visit historic Charlottesville, one-time home of US Presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe, before continuing to the charming colonial town of Williamsburg.

Day 9:

Step back in time on today's wonderful optional excursion - to historic Jamestowne, the first permanent English settlement in America. Explore the Glasshouse, and see artefacts from the original Jamestown Fort before moving on to colonial Williamsburg to discover what...

Day 10:

Today we'll cross the Potomac River to the iconic US capital. Here the White House, Lincoln Memorial, the Capitol and the government buildings on 'the Hill' are among the most memorable sights, and our optional guided city tour is a perfect introduction to them. In the afternoon, we return to Washington Airport for the return flight home, at the end of a memorable tour.

Day 11:

Today you arrive back in the UK.
