Itinerary

Day 1 London Tilbury At London Tilbury Port, embark Magellan (3T) in preparation for an afternoon sailing. Day 2 Rotterdam, The Netherlands This morning we arrive in Rotterdam where we have half a day to explore. After being severely impacted by German air attacks in 1940, the city was rebuilt leading to its current futuristic appearance. Marvel at the wealth of fine museums and enjoy the energetic atmosphere and top-class dining venues. Early afternoon we sail towards Norway. Day 3 At sea Enjoy a relaxing day at sea. Day 4 Olden, Norway Explore the picturesque village of Olden, sitting at the end of the stunning Nordfjord amongst lush-green hillsides and charming farms. From the village the Oldendalen Valley paves the way through mighty mountains, glistening lakes and green landscapes to the striking Jostendalsbreen Glacier. Day 5 Kristiansund This morning we dock in Kristiansund, named after the Norwegian King Christian VI in 1942. This beautiful west coast town is renowned for its impressive architecture, built following the destruction of the city by the World War II bombings. Discover the wonderful architecture and admire the beautiful natural harbour which shields the city centre from adverse weather. Day 6 At sea Relax on board as we cruise towards Alta. Day 7 Alta Early arrival into Alta, the region of Finnmark’s largest town located on the inner side of the beautiful Altafjord and along the stunning Alta River, renowned as one of Norway’s best salmon fishing rivers. The town is divided into three interesting boroughs: Bossekop, the old trading and market area; Elvebakken, which makes up the eastern part of Alta and home to the town’s stunning harbour; and the third is the modern new town. Norway’s largest plateau, Finnmarksvidda, is home to breathtaking river valleys, extensive woodland and beautiful flora, and of a winter night the northern lights often dance across its skies. Day 8 Honningsvåg Norwegian law states that a city requires at least 5,000 inhabitants, however Honningsvåg was granted city status in 1996 with only 2,500 residents. Its great location in the Barents Sea means that enthralling excursions can be made to the magnificent North Cape, Europe’s northernmost point. Day 9 Tromsø The Capital of the Arctic, Tromsø, is situated almost 220 miles north of the magnificent Arctic Circle and boasts an exquisite array of landmarks including the world’s northernmost university. Visit the magnificent summit of Mount Storsteinen by cable car to admire the breathtaking views over the city which crosses two islands and the mainland. The Arctic Cathedral is another unforgettable sight with its striking triangular structure and incredible glass mosaic produced by the talent artist, Victor Sparre. A number of fascinating museums can also be found here including The Polar Museum, a fine exhibition of local polar seafaring traditions. Day 10 At sea Day 11 Trondheim Dating back as far as AD 997, Trondheim showcases a fascinating history through numerous historical sites, impressive museums and art galleries. Discover the magnificent Nidaros Cathedral, built over the tomb of Norway’s patron saint, St Olav and now the country’s national sanctuary admired for its Gothic style, impressive west wall and stunning glass stained windows. Wander through the picturesque town to encounter colourful warehouses, tranquil waterways and natural scenery. Day 12 Åndalsnes This morning we arrive in Åndalsnes, a beautiful small town at the mouth of the River Rauma; stretching to 42km, the river boasts dramatic waterfalls, rapids and is a popular destination for salmon fishing. Åndalsnes is surrounded by dramatic mountainous scenery; join an exciting optional excursion to the fantastic Romsdal Alps, a breathtaking snow-capped mountain range home to Europe’s tallest rock face: Troll Wall. Day 13 Bergen Norway’s second largest city, Bergen, is a beautiful sight to behold with its charming small town, vibrant atmosphere and abundance of museums and art galleries. Founded more than 900 years ago, Bergen’s colourful Bryggen wharf features wooden gabled buildings that belonged originally to Hanseatic merchants. Bergen is also the perfect opportunity to admire magnificent scenery as it’s situated against a beautiful backdrop of seven mountains; enjoy a marvellous funicular journey to the breathtaking summit of Mount Floien to capture incredible panoramic views of Bergen and Norway’s glistening coastline. Day 14 At sea Day 15 London Tilbury Arrive at London Tilbury Port.
